Collective Practise

We are a group of artists based in Whangarei, we work across a range of media including paper, ceramics, textile, printmaking, sculpture, installation and performance. We meet regularly and like to talk about contemporary issues in art and society and how these impact our practice.

We are; Catherine Davies-Colley, Ros May, Alex Moyse, Jolene Pascoe, Angela Rowe, and Linette van Greunen.

Wish you were here

Wish you were here is a group exhibition featuring new works by members of the art group Collective Practise in response to the object or idea of the postcard, it is curated by Angela Rowe. Each artist has created work to explore ideas around place, landscape, nostalgia, relationships, hopes and reality. The exhibition and associated events bring together their many varied responses to the ‘postcard’, and it includes a range of media; paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics  and textiles. Leading up to the opening of the exhibition postcards have been sent to the Yvonne Rust Gallery and between the artists, drawing attention to the experience of the object in hand and the slowing down of time between communications.

Collective Practise is joined by five other brilliant artists, we are:

Heath Bell, Catherine Davies-Colley, Ros May, Alex Moyse, Angela Rowe, Leigh Tawharu, Linette van Greunen, Megan White, Julie Wood and Tracey Willms Deane.

Flying to you, Hurry home, Missing you, xxx, Over oceans and seas ~ Heath Bell.

Postcards are usually brief messages – often a long-distance hug, a shout, a “Look at me!”  My works in this postcard-inspired exhibition reflect these ideas: brief messages, deep emotions, strong bonds, carried across vast lands and oceans to loved ones.  These thoughts became sharply personal when I recently decided to move from Northland to Christchurch,…

Wish you were here, Correspondence

Linette van Greunen For this exhibition my thinking was influenced by a piece of writing by Tim Ingold in his aptly named book “Correspondence”. “We inhabit a world of more than humans. Impossible Postcards

Meg White Impossible Postcards My postcards are representative of a living botanical entity, one which has evolved and is evolving over time. In a Landscape Architecture discussion paper written by Kees Lokman and Susan Herrington, Gardens as Migratory Devices, the relationship of natural botanical migration and human control is explored, in the sense of garden…
